Continuing with the best AZSalsa.net's tradition to celebrate one more year of influencing the growth of salsa in Phoenix, this year edition of the AZ Salsa Festival will feature a special live salsa concert with the international renowned Tito Rojas direct from Puerto Rico, the oficial CD release party of the Phoenix's hottest Jaleo Band, finest salsa DJs, a spectacular dance show, and new surprises that are being added!
For those of you who were not able to go the the 3 band concert at the Rialto Theater to see Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkesta, here's another opportunity to see them live. Y La Orkesta will be the opening show for Ozomatli.
This is a video from an Emmy-award winning commercial which is shown in a super cool television station, MegaTV (channel 405 on Comcast). I highly recommend this channel to all latin music enthusiasts. The host of the show is Alexis Valdés. He is one of the best Cuban actors and played an important character in "Salsa", one of the most authentic French movies about salsa music and dance.
This was a great concert by one of Tucson's newest bands. Y La Orkesta is directed by Sergio Mendoza. Great to see and hear Perez Prado's Mambo being revived here in Tucson.
I do it every weekend and even sometimes during the work week. It is public knowledge I will be doing this whenever and wherever I can. People know this is the love of my life. I am talking about SALSA! You see, everyone might know what my passion is, but they do not understand it. I will tell each and every one of you- why salsa??
Thanks to the defined structure of Casino, appeared the popular Rueda de Casino, a type of choreography in circle form that is made by several pairs of dancers, guided by a leader who "sings" the movements.....
In order to speak of the antecedents of the Rueda de Casino it is necessary to go back to the reign of Luis XIV in France where the first ballets first appeared. As of that moment they instituted "ballets de corte". In order to have a good title it was necessary to know certain choreographies that were performed in the celebrations of the nobility. Clear examples: the Minuet and the Contradanzas.
The "Father of Boogaloo," Joe Cuba, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York. He was the most popular exponent of the boogaloo, a fused Latino and R&B rhythm that exploded onto the American top 40s charts during the turbulent 1960s & ‘70s.
